We believe that no child should go hungry. Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on families and food poverty is expected to increase dramatically within the coming months.
That is why we’ve partnered with Sir Josiah Mason Trust (SJMT), a local collective of 3 charities: Sir Josiah Mason’s Almshouse Charity, Sir Josiah Mason’s Care Charity and Sir Josiah Mason’s Relief in Need and Educational Charity.
Between November 2020 and March 2021, their Relief in Need and Education Charity will be funding 30 food parcels each week to families experiencing hardship in parts of Birmingham & Solihull, and we have been tasked with ensuring those in need are fed.
Why SJMT is responding to this crisis
Sir Josiah Mason founded the charity to support those most in need. In the 1850’s, this was older women who were single or widows and children who were Orphans. In 1868, they opened our doors to what became the largest orphanage in Birmingham and this was the main purpose of their charity for many years. Since the 1960’s, they have largely supported older adults, but one of our charities ‘Sir Josiah Mason’s Relief in Need & Education’ was founded following the closure of the orphanage and with the purpose of relieving persons who are in need, hardship or distress; and to promote the education of persons who are under the age of 25.
They are currently looking at expanding and developing this part of their Trust and they feel they have a duty to respond in any way they can to the current crisis facing local families.
